Only the third owners, the original house, designed in 1908 by Walter Ratcliff and Alfred Henry Jacobs was destroyed in the 1923 Berkeley fire and redesigned by Alfred Jacobs in 1925. The first owners were also connected to the University. The celebrated law professor Alexander Kidd was nicknamed “Captain Kidd” for his high-handed classroom demeanor. One of his students, Frances Wilson, made the grade and then some, becoming his wife as well as an accomplished attorney in her own right. She was the only female deputy district attorney of Alameda County at that time. Dr. Campagna- Pinto, the second owner, sold the house to the Tripp family in 1966.The house has had some upgrades over the years, including a massive retaining wall, but needs additional work to reach its tremendous potential.
